A door supervisor is a individual who provides a manned security service in or at any premises, building or event that is licensed to sell alcohol to the public.
Door supervisors are required and can be usually seen working at wine bars, pubs, hotels, restaurants and nightclubs in most of our town and city centres most nights of the week.
Door supervisor represent the management of licensed premises, they work under the direction of the person who holds the licence to sell alcohol. This person is called the designated premises supervisor, who is often referred to as the DPS.
Door supervisors main duties are to control entry this may involve body and bag searching, maintain order, other duties include but are not limited to helping customers, administering first aid and assisting in evacuation procedures.
All door supervisors are required by law to have an SIA licence to be able to carry out their duties. It is a criminal offence to engage in licensable conduct without a licence: if found guilty, the maximum penalty is six months imprisonment and /or a fine of up to £5,000.
